Nigel was born on January 25th 1991 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Heading off his career, Nigel started Karting at the age of 9 when he joined the Mini Junior class in Holland. With only a couple of races at the end of 2000, in 2001 he and his father decided to join the Dutch Mini Junior Championship for a full season, which he won surprisingly in its first year.
